Parents and children can celebrate the High Holy Days together at Temple Beth-El, where we offer family services on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Here are the details.
At 10:00 a.m., on both Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, we hold a program for 2 - 7 year olds, accompanied by an adult, featuring books related to the holidays. Rosh Hashanah Time and Yom Kippur Time include a sing-along and craft project.
At 11:00 a.m. on Rosh Hashanah, we hold Rosh 'n' Roll. At 10:00 a.m. on Yom Kippur, we hold Yom Atone. These are energetic, child-centered services for 3rd - 6th graders accompanied by an adult. They include age-appropriate singing and dancing designed to introduce the structure of the Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur prayer services. We hope your 3 to 7-year olds participate in both programs on both holidays.
Our Tashlikh Service is popular with adults and children alike. It takes place at 4:00 p.m. on Rosh Hashanah afternoon at Steppingstone Park. It lasts less than one half hour.
On Yom Kippur, we hold our Family/Readers Service (for families with children who are readers) at 5:30 p.m. At the conclusion of the 5:30 p.m. Family/Readers Service, the children who have participated in the service provide our community with an uplifting experience as they enter the Sanctuary and we join together as one Beth-El community for the closing blasts of the shofar.
All these services give the youngest members of our congregation a sense of the beauty and holiness of the day in an age-appropriate setting.
