Adult Ed – Haidt Series
November 21 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm
Exploring our Moral “Pallet” with Jonathan Haidt
Taught by our Rabbis
Once a month, Thursdays 11:30 am-1:00 pm
Politics and a wide array of moral opinions surround and saturate us daily, especially as we approach the 2020 election. Having been inspired by last year’s Special Shabbat with Jonathan Haidt, this year, we delve deep into his book The Righteous Mind, Why Good People are Divided by Politics and Religion. We will examine the multiple foundations which Haidt claims comprise our moral “palete”– the deep-seated instincts that drive our most passionate beliefs. How do Jewish texts and teachings express the tensions and interplay between these values? Participants will immerge from our year-long, monthly series with deeper insights into the nuances of their own convictions and eye-opening perspectives on the beliefs of those with whom they disagree.
